This blog was formerly known as Tales of a Brit Abroad and moved over to this address in autumn 2014. Unlike Prince, it didn't go through the awkward symbol phase first.
AboutI'm originally from Lancashire in the UK and have worked in the editorial sector for the past decade, both as an editor and writer. Since finishing my Spanish studies, I've moved back and forth between Sevilla, Madrid and the UK several times. I moved back to Madrid in 2013, and I'm currently working full time as a Product Manager of English language teaching materials for Spain. I also write freelance for Rough Guides and Flush Magazine.
Here on Oh hello, Spain, you'll find plenty of posts related to life in Spain along with must-do recommendations for Madrid and other Spanish towns and cities.
Why Spain?Although I had a holiday romance or two with Spain as a teenager, the real love affair began in 2004 in the unlikely town of Alcalá de Guadaira, Sevilla. Posted there as a British Council Language Assistant on my year abroad from university, I was thrown in at the deep end. Barely able to understand the notorious andaluz accent for the first few weeks, I left ten months later with one of my own: and a desire to return to Spain. Jobs being easier to find in the capital, I'm now living in Madrid.
New here?Welcome! This post is a good place to start. If you want to know more about my experiences living and working in Madrid, you can find out more in this guest post for Paper Planes. If you have a lot of time on your hands, you can read interviews with me on Feather & Film, Global Goose and Seen the Elephant.
ContactIf you'd like to get in touch with any comments, questions about life in Spain or just to say hi, I'd love to hear from you. Likewise, if you have a writing proposal you think I'd be interested in, please get in touch. Y si prefieres escribirme en castellano, adelante!
